Friends Cadillac Don (born Donald Sharp) and J-Money (born Tiyon Rogers) grew up in Crawford, Mississippi, listening to blues and R&B before being attracted to rap’s more violent character. Both received baseball scholarships to college, but J-Money was unable to try out for the professionals due to an injury, while Cadillac Don chose to teach high school art. However, both continued to rap on the side and ultimately decided to create a duet after meeting local producer Big Fruit. As their single “Peanut Butter & Jelly” continued to receive radio play, Asylum Records (a Warner offshoot) signed Cadillac Don & J-Money to a distribution contract in 2006, and their first full-length, the Ying Yang Twins and UGK-influenced Look at Me, was released in November of that year.
