Elle King is an American country music singer. She released her debut single, Ex’s and Oh’s, in 2011. In 2015, she released her first album, Love Stuff.

Elle King’s mix of pop and country-tinged retro-rock gets a grungy, bluesy makeover. She debuted with The Elle King EP in 2012, then “Ex’s & Oh’s” off her Top 30 first album, 2015’s Love Stuff, went to number one on the Billboard alternative chart. She has collaborated with musicians such as Ronnie Spector, Dierks Bentley, and Andy Grammer by 2020.

Elle King, the daughter of London King and Rob Schneider, was born Tanner Elle Schneider in Los Angeles in 1989. (actor, comedian, and former cast member of Saturday Night Live). She was born and raised in Ohio, and at the age of nine, she decided she wanted to be a singer and musician after hearing the Donnas, an all-girl pop-punk band. She began playing guitar at the age of 13 and subsequently added banjo to her repertoire. At the age of 16, King started street busking and gigging in New York before going to Philadelphia to study painting and cinematography at the University of Arts. She appeared in a number of films at that period, including 2009’s Wild Cherry. She lived in Copenhagen and Los Angeles after graduation before returning to New York and settling in Brooklyn.

Black In 2012, King signed with RCA Records and released The Elle King EP, a four-song EP. Love Stuff, her first album, was released in 2015. It included the song “Ex’s & Oh’s,” which peaked at number one on Billboard’s Alternative Songs list and propelled Love Stuff to number 28 on the Billboard 200, as well as number seven in Canada. “Different for Girls,” a duet she recorded with Dierks Bentley, was released on his album Black in 2016. The song was published as a single, and it quickly climbed to the top of the Country Airplay chart. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and a Country Music Association award for Best Vocal Event of the Year.

Shake the Spirit, King’s second long-player, was released in October 2018. It reached number 68 on the Billboard album chart in the United States (and a notch higher in Canada), as well as the Top Three on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums list and the Top Ten on the rock and alternative charts. She recorded “Under the Mistletoe,” a Christmas song with Ronnie Spector, late the following year, before releasing “Best of You,” a duet with Andy Grammer, in 2020. In the same year, she released the three-track EP In Isolation and starred in the film Love, Weddings, and Other Disasters as a singer.
