Eddie Rabbitt has been married twice, to his first wife Denise and then to Lisa Marie Presley. His most popular song is “I Love L.A.”

Eddie Rabbitt is an American country music singer who has released more than 30 albums. His songs have been hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including “I Love a Rainy Night” and “Every Breath You Take”.

From the Heart: The Last Recordings Eddie Rabbitt, one of country music’s most creative performers in the late 1970s and early 1980s, has made significant contributions to the genre that are frequently ignored. Rabbitt pushed the idiom’s creative limits, particularly in tracks like the R&B-influenced “Suspicions” and the rocking “Someone Could Lose a Heart Tonight.” Rabbitt came to Nashville in 1968 after growing up in Brooklyn and New Jersey. Though it took him a few years to get his singing career off the ground, he made a living as a songwriter, penning songs like “Kentucky Rain” for Elvis Presley and “Pure Love” for Ronnie Milsap. Eddie kept writing professionally until 1975, when he joined Elektra Records’ newly formed country division. Initially, Rabbitt recorded country music, mainly uptempo songs like “Two Dollars in the Jukebox” and “Drinkin’ My Baby (Off My Mind),” with thick, distinctive harmonies, most of which he overdubbed himself. Rabbitt’s recordings, however, became “progressively progressive” with the help of his then-collaborators David Malloy and Even Stevens. He began a run of Top Ten singles in 1976 that continued until 1989. “Drinkin’ My Baby (Off My Mind)” (1976), “You Don’t Love Me Anymore” (1978), “Every Which Way But Loose” (1979), “Drivin’ My Life Away” (1980), “I Love a Rainy Night” (1980), “Step by Step” (1980), and “You and I,” a 1982 duet with Crystal Gayle, were among his 16 number one singles during that time. Rabbitt returned to more conventional sounds in the late 1980s, as shown by his country shuffle “On Second Thought,” but it was too late for him to return to the top of the country charts, as he had already been surpassed by a younger generation of musicians. His choice to only record and perform infrequently throughout the 1990s was influenced by his son’s fatal renal disease. Rabbitt was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1997 and died of the illness on May 7, 1998. The album From the Heart was released after his death.
