Eric Gales is a singer-songwriter from the United States. He has released six studio albums and two live albums. His songs have been featured in various television shows and movies, including The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Inception.

Eric Gales was an American professional baseball player who played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, and Houston Astros. He is best known for winning the 2008 World Series with the Phillies.

Guitar phenom in the blues Eric Gales was born and reared in Memphis, where he began playing at the age of four, imitating his elder brothers Eugene and Manuel’s upside-down, left-handed technique (a legacy passed down from their grandpa, Dempsey Garrett, Sr., who was known to jam with Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf). Eric signed to Elektra four years later, four years after winning his first blues contest, to release his 1991 debut LP, which he recorded with Eugene on bass. In 1993, Picture of a Thousand Faces was released. For 1995’s Left Hand Band, attributed to the Gales Brothers, Manuel (who had previously played under the nickname Little Jimmy King) reunited with his brothers.

That's What I Am In April 2001, a more mature Gales released That’s What I Am, his debut for MCA. Gales, a mediocre vocalist at best but a dynamite guitarist, was often compared to Jimi Hendrix and suffered as a result of the comparison. Gales’ following two albums, 2006’s Crystal Vision and 2007’s Psychedelic Underground, both issued by Blues Bureau Records, appeared to be carbon copies of Hendrix albums, even down to the album cover. The Story of My Life, released in 2008, and Layin’ Down the Blues, released in 2009, saw the Hendrix influence reduced slightly, but Gales, a dazzling guitarist at times, still appeared to be searching for a way out of the Hendrix shadow and into his own voice. Gales returned in 2010 with Relentless, a compilation of 13 original songs, then a year later, in 2011, with the impassioned Transformation. In the autumn of 2013, he released the all-instrumental Ghost Notes. In 2014, he released Good for Sumthin’ on the Cleopatra label. Raphael Saadiq produced the vintage-sounding blues-rock performance, which included guest appearances by guitarists Eric Johnson and Zakk Wylde. In the summer of 2016, A Night on the Sunset Strip, a live audio and video package, was published. The profoundly emotional Middle of the Road, Gales’ fourth album for Provogue/Mascot, included guest appearances from Gary Clark, Jr., Lance Lopez, and adolescent guitar prodigy Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, among others.

The Bookends Gales’ career was resurrected with Middle of the Road, which became his first album to chart on the Billboard Blues list. In February 2019, he released Bookends, which was produced by Matt Wallace.
