Jimmie Walker is an American actor, best known for his role as Rev. Jim Ignatowski in the sitcom “Cosby”. He also starred in the film “Walker”, and in the TV series “The District”. At the age of 18, he left South Carolina and moved to San Francisco, where he eventually started appearing in local commercials with his classmate, fellow actor Martin Milner.

June 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, born the son of James Carter Walker, Jr. He grew up in the Bronx with his mother Lorena, father James Sr. and sister Beverly. James Sr. worked as a porter at Pullman, and Lorena was in charge of the hospital’s nursing department. Jimmy attended Theodore Roosevelt High School and participated in the New York State funded SEEK (Search for Education, Evaluation and Knowledge) program. Through SEEK, Walker discovered radio and was hired by WRVR, a radio station in New York. Starting with the 1964 World Series, Jimmy worked as a teenager as a salesman at Yankee Stadium, and one day Mickey Mantle gave him a silver dollar.

Career: Walker began his career as a stand-up comedian in 1969. After appearances on Jack Paar and Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In, Jimmy caught the eye of the casting director of Good Times, who cast him as James J. Evans Jr. The series produced 133 episodes over six seasons and earned Walker two Golden Globe nominations. The phrase Dy-no-mite!, attributed to John Rich, one of the show’s directors, was included in a special edition of TV Land’s 100 Greatest TV Quotes and Apt Phrases. While starring in the series Good Times, Jimmy released the stand-up comedy album Dyn-o-mite (1975). Walker’s colleagues John Amos and Esther Rolle were disappointed that the show was approaching JJ’s popularity, with Rolle noting: He’s 18 years old and doesn’t work. He can’t read or write. He’s not thinking. That’s not how the show started… Little by little – with the help of an artist, I guess, because they couldn’t do that to me – they made J.J. dumber and expanded his role. Amos also expressed his displeasure and said: The writers would rather have put a chicken hat on JJ and paraded him around saying DY-NO-MITE, and then they would have had a few minutes and not written any meaningful dialogue.

Personal life: In 2012, Jimmy told The Wendy Williams Show that he had had many girlfriends, but had never been married or had children. In 2017, rumors circulated that Walker was dating conservative columnist Ann Coulter, but Coulter responded to the rumors by tweeting: Best friends, I love her, no romance. Politically, Jimmy describes himself as an independent realist and says he is against affirmative action. In an interview with CNN in 2012, he said he was morally opposed to gay marriage, but that it had to be accepted because the fight wasn’t worth the war.
