After high school in 1954, Chris attended Pomona College and decided to pursue a career in writing. He published several award-winning essays and was an outstanding member of the school’s rugby, American football and track teams. At that time he took a job in the dredging industry. Kristofferson eventually graduated cum laude from Pomona College with a degree in literature.

Chris won a scholarship to Oxford University, which enabled him to study at Merton College. He returned to sports and participated in boxing and rugby matches. During his studies, he began to write poems and songs. He also began recording his first records at Top Rank Records. In 1960, he earned a degree in English literature. Several years later he received an honorary doctorate from Pomona College.

Although Chris was already in the music business, he let his family push him to join the army. After graduating from Oxford, he joined the U.S. Army and became a second lieutenant. He then became a helicopter pilot, completed Ranger School and was stationed in West Germany. He eventually reached the rank of captain. During those years Chris still managed to put a band together and make music. After the tour ended, he had the opportunity to teach English literature at West Point, but he chose to focus on songwriting instead. As a result, he was disowned by his family.

Career: After his discharge from the army in 1965, Kristofferson was finally able to pursue his musical career. In the beginning it wasn’t easy and he had to take all kinds of jobs to make ends meet. Before he became successful, he and his first wife were divorced. He gets a job as a janitor at the Columbia Recording Studio in Nashville and meets June Carter while sweeping the floor. He asked her to give her demo to Johnny Cash, which she did. Cash wasn’t listening, though. He was also working as a helicopter pilot at the time, which gave him the opportunity to land the helicopter in Cash’s yard. He eventually got Cash’s attention, and the star eventually listened to Kristofferson’s band.

Cash decided to record the Chris Sunday song Mornin’ Coming Down, which launched Kristofferson’s career as a songwriter. Soon other singers, such as Dave Dudley, began recording other songs written by Chris, including Viet Nam Blues. During this period, Kristofferson also tried to release his own songs, but they were not as successful as those performed by other artists.

Over the next few years, new singles written by Kristofferson appeared, including Roy Drusky’s Jody and the Kid and Jerry Lee Lewis’ Once More with Feeling. His songs remained popular throughout the 1970s. In 1971, Chris released The Silver Tongued Devil and I, which was his first success as an artist.

After this success Kris appeared for many years in films like Flower in Love, A Star Is Born and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. This film career lasted many years, and he reappeared in the Blade film series in the 2000s. His musical career has also continued to develop: In the 1980s and beyond, he worked with artists such as Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. In 2013, he released a new album, Feeling Mortal.

Relationships: In 1961 he married his girlfriend Frances Mavia Beer, but divorced her. Kristofferson later dated Janis Joplin, who died in 1970. In 1973 he married singer Rita Coolidge. The marriage lasted seven years and ended in divorce in 1980. His current wife is Lisa Meyers, whom he married in 1983. During this relationship, Kristofferson had eight children.

Medical problems : In 1999, Chris underwent successful bypass surgery. From 2004 to 2015, he suffered from a mysterious illness later identified as Lyme disease. At some point she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. To treat Lyme disease, he was treated with antibiotics in California.
