Michael married Nichole Beattie, a writer/producer, on January 15, 2000, and the couple had two boys, Julian and Maceo, before divorcing in 2007. In 2016, Rapaport married actress Kebe Dunn. Michael was charged with aggravated harassment after being detained in 1997 for harassing his ex-girlfriend, actress Lili Taylor. Rapaport pled guilty to the charges, and a protective order was imposed against him, prohibiting him from contacting Taylor. He was also told he needed to go to therapy. During an American Airlines aircraft in June 2018, he prevented a guy from accessing an emergency door.
