Leslie Jones was born Annette Jones in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 7, 1967. Jones went to a high school in Lynwood, California, and when her father recommended she play basketball due of her height, she won a basketball scholarship to Chapman University in Orange, California. Jones moved to Colorado State University in 1986 when her basketball coach, Brian Berger, accepted a coaching position there. She majored in computer science and accounting before deciding on communication as her major.
