Micah Materre is an Emmy Award-winning American journalist who now anchors the WGN Evening News at 5 and 6 p.m. and the WGN News at 9 and 10 p.m. Micah co-anchored WGN Midday News from January 2003 to October 2009, before being promoted to his present position as a WGN News at Nine anchor.
Materre had an early interest in journalism, which he pursued after graduating from a local Chicago high school. She went on to Drake University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Micah began his career at WGN-TV in January 1998 as a medical reporter and co-anchor of the station’s Morning News. She has hosted all of WGN’s newscasts and has reported on entertainment news and special assignments.
Micah was particularly well-known for covering the historic inauguration of America’s first black president. She also covers and co-produces the bi-weekly feature “Chicago’s Very Own” for WGN News, and she hosts WGN’s public affairs show “People to People.”
