Geist also hosted an NBC multi-hour report on the Orlando nightclub shooting on the morning of the 12th. June 2016. Willie was featured for seven hours in an NBC News special that aired across the United States. Geist and the Sunday TODAY show received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for similar coverage on the 4th. August 2019, the morning after the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
