Early Years

Bert Kreischer was born on November 3, 1972, in Tampa, Florida, to Albert Kreischer Jr. and his mother. Al, his father, was a real estate attorney, and Gege, his mother, worked in early childhood development. Bert attended Jesuit High School and then went on to Florida State University, where he majored in English and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. “The Princeton Review” rated FSU #1 on its list of America’s best “party colleges” in 1997 during his sixth year at the institution. Kreischer was subsequently dubbed “the top partyer at the country’s Number One Party School” by “Rolling Stone,” which featured him in a six-page story headlined “Bert Kreischer: The Undergraduate.” The piece drew the attention of filmmaker Oliver Stone, who bought the rights to Bert’s tale and received screenplays from many authors. After the transaction fell through, one of the writers rewrote the screenplay with Kreischer’s name altered to “Van Wilder” and sold it to National Lampoon. The film “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder,” starring Ryan Reynolds, was released in 2002. Bert remarked of the film in 2014, “It’s something I’ve never seen before. It was completely unrelated to me.”


Bert got his start in stand-up comedy at Potbelly’s, a Tallahassee bar/nightclub. He submitted a video of his routine to agent Jason Steinberg, who invited him to attend several stand-up performances in New York City. Kreischer subsequently obtained a job manning the door at the Boston Comedy Club in Greenwich Village, and a few months later, Will Smith’s production firm offered him a sitcom contract. Bert starred in the pilot “Life with David J.” and the short film “Prepare to Meet Thy God” in 2001. In 2004, he guest-starred on “The Shield” and featured on the DVD “National Lampoon Live: New Faces – Volume 2,” and one of his tales was animated for Comedy Central’s “Shorties Watchin’ Shorties.” Kreischer made his acting debut in the 2007 film “Alpha Mail,” and subsequently starred with Amy Schumer, Tiffany Haddish, and other comedians in the 2008 reality show spoof “Reality Bites Back.” In 2009, he broadcast his first Comedy Central special, “Comfortably Dumb,” and the following year, he started presenting the Travel Channel series “Bert the Conqueror.” Bert appeared on “Rachael Ray” on a regular basis from 2011 to 2015, as well as “Conan,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “Master Debaters with Jay Mohr,” “Comics Unleashed,” “Last Call with Carson Daly,” “Lights Out with David Spade,” “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” and “This Is Not Happening.”

He featured in Netflix’s “The Cabin with Bert Kreischer” in 2020, a reality series in which he “goes to a cabin for some self-care and asks his hilarious friends to join him on his journey to cleanse his mind, body, and soul.” Kreischer and Mark Hamill were cast in the film “The Machine” in April 2021, which is billed as a “genre-bending comedy based on Bert’s real-life experiences and subsequent breakthrough stand-up routine ‘The Machine.’” That stand-up act, which has been watched over 80 million times, is about Bert stealing a train with the Russian mafia on a trip to Russia. Kreischer also serves as an executive producer on the picture. He featured on the DIY Network show “Man Caves” in 2011, when presenters Tony Siragusa and Jason Cameron transformed his garage into a man cave complete with a humidor and “floor-to-ceiling movie center.” Bert hosts and produces his weekly podcast, “Bertcast,” which he records in his man cave.
