John Del Giorno is an Emmy-winning American reporter for Metro Networks and WABC-TV in New York. Jorno has worked for Eyewitness News since 1995. He has flown over New York in a helicopter longer than any other television reporter.
John attended Union Catholic Regional High School from 1984 to 1988. He then enrolled at Ithaca College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in radio and television.
When Metro Traffic partnered with WABC-TV and Eyewitness News to launch News Copter 7, Giorno was chosen to take on the task. Since then he has worked as an on-air reporter, studio announcer and producer for Metro.
Throughout his career, John has specialized in live coverage of breaking news. As an aviation reporter and cameraman, John attended numerous events in the region, including the 1995 Long Island fires, TWA Flight 800, Egypt Air Flight 990, the search for Kennedy Jr.
On the eleventh. September 2001, the News Copter 7 was on the air when the tragic events of the World Trade Center occurred. Jorno’s account began the moment the second plane flew past his helicopter over New York Harbor and ended more than five hours later, following his reports and photos around the world.
